On November 18, 1972, John & Sonja Babb opened the doors to the first J&S Oil Service Station. John Babb was at the pumps waiting when the first customer pulled in. He greeted his first customer with a big smile, asked how the customer was and how he could help him. As the tank was filling, he washed the windows and checked the oil. When he was finished, he sincerely thanked the customer for his business and asked him to please come back again.
John knew that good customer service is the key to a successful business. His traditions continue today.

TODAY...
Today, the next generation of the Babb family runs J&S Oil. John Babb Jr. and sister, Cassie Babb, are keeping to the high standards of service the company was founded on.
J&S Oil has expanded to include seven Xpress Stop Service Stations & Convenience Stores, two Express Lube locations, two Ultra Clean Car Washes, a Wholesale Fuels Division, which delivers quality fuels statewide, two Home Heating Delivery & Service Offices, specializing in oil heat, propane, air conditioning and plumbing, serving most of central Maine, from offices in Manchester and Winslow, and a Self-Serve Pet Wash!
The company is now family and employee owned. Whenever you walk into one of our retail locations, see one of our drivers on the road or speak to any of our people on the phone, you are dealing with one of the owners. It makes a big difference in the way we do business.

HOW WE BECAME EMPLOYEE-OWNERS!
In 1995, the Babb family decided to institute an ESOP (Employee Stock Ownership Plan). It is a qualified retirement plan, through which the company purchases stock from the major stockholders
(the Babb family) and sells the stock to a retirement plan for its employees.
It is a win-win situation. The founders are able to receive retirement income from the company, by selling some of their stock to the ESOP and the employees who help to build the company receive stock in the company, toward their own eventual retirements.
Through the ESOP, the employees of J&S Oil, who meet the plan qualifications, receive stock in their company at no cost to them! Employee Ownership has had a very positive effect on the attitudes of our people and on the way they feel about their work. In 2002, J&S Oil was named the New England ESOP Association "Company of the Year".

Who's Who at the Corporate Office
| John L. Babb; President John is the son of John & Sonja Babb, founders of J&S Oil. John has worked in the business since it’s inception. He began at an early age, pumping gas at the first store. After serving in the military, he returned to the business full time. John has extensive experience in most all aspects of the business today and is now the company's President, overseeing the company's management staff and its cultural and operational activities. |
| Cassie Babb; Vice President Cassie is the daughter of John & Sonja Babb, founders of J&S Oil. During her high school years, Cassie worked as a gas attendant at the family's Manchester service station. After her schooling she worked outside the family business for a couple of years, before returning in September of 1983 to work in the office. Cassie worked her way up from Data Entry Clerk, to Office Manager, to Administrative Vice President. In 1999, Cassie was named Vice President of J&S Oil. Her duties include overseeing the operations of the Wholesale and Administrative divisions of the company. |
| Bill Norwood; Chief Financial Officer As a high school student, Bill worked as an attendant at J&S Oil's first service station. After finishing college and receiving his degree in Accounting, he returned to the company in 1988 as Controller. Bill has since gone on to receive his Masters Degree and acts as Chief Financial Officer for J&S Oil. Bill oversees the operations of J&S Oil Heat's two offices and service department. Bill Norwood also serves on the Board of Directors of J&S Oil. |
| Gary Cooper; Wholesale Transport & Dispatch Manager Transport Manager, Gary Cooper, has been a part of the J&S Oil family since April of 1984. He began as a transport driver. Today he manages the transport division, overseeing a staff of 18 drivers and dispatching the deliveries of tens of millions of gallons of fuel each year to service stations, fuel offices and businesses statewide. | Chris Hopkins; Human Resource Manager Chris began his career with the company as a part time gas attendant in 1992. He was promoted through the management ranks at the Winslow C-Store & Service Station, acting as store manager for three years. In 1998, Chris accepted a position in the Corporate Office as Safety, Regulatory & Training Officer and was promoted to Human Resource Manager in 2000. Chris' responsibilities include the interviewing, hiring, and training of all new employee owners. |
| Joe Gilliland; District Manager, Retail Division Joe joined the company in October of 1990, as Assistant Manager at the Manchester C-Store & Service Station. Joe was transferred to the Winslow Store, where he served as Manager. In 1992, Joe was promoted to District Manager, overseeing the operations of all the company C-Stores and their associates. His responsibilities include: Customer Relations, working with vendors for special promotions, product selection and placement, as well as setting retail pricing. Rate us online. |
| Kelly Marie; Creative Director Kelly became a member of the J&S Oil team in 1992. Kelly's responsibilities include: the creation & management of this web site, brochures, print ads, direct mail, copywriting & production of radio advertising, creation and positioning of POS materials for all divisions, the planning and execution of all special events and the oversight of our Xpress Rewards program. Kelly is the Communications Chair for the ESOP Committee and was J&S Oil's 2004 and 2010 "ESOP Employee Owner of the Year". |
| Toni Marston; Systems Administrator Toni joined the company in 1992, as a data entry clerk. Her natural ability and inquisitiveness led her to work with the computer systems. With continued company sponsored education and on the job training and experience, Toni has worked her way up to Systems Administrator. As such, she designs, purchases, configures, installs and maintains network hardware, software and telecommunications services for all divisions and site locations. Toni was J&S Oil's 2000 "ESOP Employee Owner of the Year." |
| Jon Farnham; Retail Systems Administrator Jon joined the company in 1993, as a station attendant. Jon worked his way up through the store management ranks. He proved to be a natural with computers and worked closely with our Systems Administrator, testing new technology at the store level. Jon assisted other divisions, training other store managers on new systems. When the position of Retail Systems Administrator was created, Jon was the best and obvious choice. Jon assists Toni Marston with computer issues and works closely with the retail divisions. Jon is involved with the ESOP Committee and was J&S Oil's 2001 "ESOP Employee Owner of the Year." |
| Dan Dumais; Safety, Training & Regulatory Officer Dan previously worked at our C-Stores and transferred to the office position in 2011. He is putting his experience in our stores to use conducting training for all new associates, instilling in them the importance of positive attitudes and dedication to customer service that J&S Oil is known for. Dan also trains associates in safety related issues, is trained to respond to spills and keeps informed on regulatory changes that effect our industry. |
